Sorrento has been a renowned tourist destination since ancient times, in fact it was already a holiday destination for the nobles in Roman times.
From 1700 its landscape beauties came even more popular thanks to many painters who represented glimpses of the city in their paintings.
The main attraction is the city center, the main square called Piazza Tasso and the long and famous Corso Italia, a pedestrian area where all the best boutiques, ice cream parlors and activities related to the city's crafts are located.
The small street parallel to the Corso, Via San Cesareo, is also full of shops selling typical products such as limoncello and chocolate.
From there, in a few steps, you’ll arrive at the beautiful municipal villa, with its terrace overlooking the sea that embraces the whole Gulf of Naples, framed in the center by Vesuvius.
Also noteworthy is the small Cloister of San Francesco near the terrace.
