Limoncello is the king of Campania's liqueurs, yellow like the sun, it carries all the joy of the Sorrento and Amalfi Coast.
With a sharp and sweetish taste, we can officially date the birth of this ancient digestive only in 1900. Today it is famous all over the world and every tourist who reaches the wonderful coasts of Campania can enjoy a drop of this gold coloured liqueur.
It is said that the Limoncello liqueur was born in a small guesthouse in Capri, where Mrs. Maria Antonia Farace had a lush garden of lemons and oranges, however also in Sorrento and Amalfi, legends and tales about the production of the traditional yellow liqueur flock.
However, limoncello owes its origins to the Sorrento and Amalfi coast areas, clearly including the island of Capri. These are the only areas that, in order to protect the high quality of their product, have obtained the PGI (protected geographical indication) for the classic oval lemons.
Limoncello is obtained by lemon peels macerated in pure alcohol with the addition of a syrup based on water and sugar.
Its preparation is simple but it is strictly recommended to use fresh, untreated lemons from the Sorrento or Amalfi area, as they are rich in essential oils that give the limoncello its unique and decisive scent and taste.
